The Morpho Butterfly is one of the most beautiful insects that exist on our planet. These stunning butterflies are coloured in shimmering metallic shades.
Their vibrant colour is caused by microscopic scales that overlap, refracting light similar to a prism. When light hits the wings of a Morpho butterfly, it is refracted against the tiny scales and comes off as blue, green or whatever colour you see.
The Blue Morpho is the most popular species in the genus morpho, but there are many different types that range in colour from blue to green to purple.
These butterflies are quite large and only live 2-3 weeks on average. They can be found mainly in South America.
